Meet Dolores, a 43-year-old woman from Guatemala. Dolores lives with her family and sells products at the local market for a living.
After being unable to afford the proper medication for her diabetes, Dolores began to develop a rapidly growing ulcer on her right leg, which was then amputated. “Since then, she’s been limited to a wheelchair. She is dependent on her family to help her around the house, and she can’t go to the market to sell her products like she used to,” shares our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq.
They tell us that Dolores is enrolled in diabetes care at their clinic and that “her medical care is excellent. For this reason, it is the right time to help her out with a prosthetic device so she can get back to her life.”
$1255 covers the cost of a new prosthetic leg, which will give Dolores back her mobility and independence. Dolores shares that “losing my leg has made me very sad. I didn’t want to go on living, but talking to Watsi has given me new hope!” Let’s keep that hope alive and give her access to the care she needs!
