Pisey is a 49-year-old husband and father from Cambodia. He lives with his wife and 15-year-old son. He has a mobile food business where he sells local spices around town. His wife works as a dishwasher in a local restaurant, and his son is in the ninth grade at the local school. Pisey has had diabetes for several years and has had trouble controlling his disease due to the lack of specialized health care available in his village. Several months ago, he stubbed his right toe and it became infected, which can occur in people with diabetes. As a result, his toe has become swollen and discolored and he is in pain. Pisey is unable to walk on his injured foot and cannot ride his motorbike to sell spices. Fortunately, Pisey's local clinic told him about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). He has been diagnosed with a gangrenous big toe by the surgeons at CSC. On September 8th, he will undergo an amputation of his toe, because gangrene can lead to serious complications if it is not treated quickly. Now, he needs help raising $479 to fund his procedure and care. Pisey shared, "I hope that I can walk again after surgery so I can return to selling my spices and supporting my family."

Sean is a 74-year-old retired commune chief from a village in Cambodia. He is married, and has one son and three daughters. Sean enjoys listening to news on the radio, and sitting and talking about current events with friends. In February, Sean was in a motor vehicle accident, and fractured his right hand. He went to the local government hospital seeking care, and doctors placed hardware in his arm to help heal his fracture. Now the bone is healed, and the hardware is painful and needs to be removed. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On September 7th, Sean will undergo a hardware removal procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will cost $304. Children's Surgical Centre is seeking help to fund Sean's procedure. Sean says: "I hope I have no more pain and I can recover well."

Kan is an 85-year-old retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She has one daughter, four sons, and nine grandchildren. Sadly, her husband passed away many years ago. Kan now lives with her eldest daughter, who is a farmer. In her free time, she likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio. One year ago, Kan developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her sensitivity to light, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Kan learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 16th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help raising $253 to fund her procedure and care. Kan shared, "I hope I can see clearly so I can visit my village pagoda by myself."

Oeun is a 71-year-old retired rice farmer. He is a proud father of six sons, three daughters, and 14 grandchildren. Unfortunately, his wife passed away, so he lives with his youngest daughter, who is a housewife, and her husband, who is a taxi driver. Some of his favorite ways to spend his time are listening to the news and playing with his grandchildren. Four years ago, Oeun developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him photophobia, tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on his own. On September 28th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and place an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Oeun says, "I hope after surgery my eye can see well again. I want to join for the special ceremonies at the pagoda again."

Silver is a 72-year-old man from Uganda. He works as a builder, and his wife retired from farming and now supervises their fields. Silver has twelve children, with his oldest in their 40s and his youngest studying in secondary school. Most of his children have their own families and can only provide limited support. For eight years, Silver has had a right inguinal hernia. While the pain was only mild initially, his symptoms have worsened with time. Now, he cannot walk long distances or complete his day-to-day work. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On December 9th, Silver will under surgery that will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. AMH is requesting $170 to fund Silver's surgery. Silver says, “I finally have hope of living a normal life once again through surgery. I will continue with building in our village so that I may be able to take good care of myself and my family.”

Veasna is a hardworking 42-year-old farmer and construction worker from Cambodia. He has two sons and two daughters, all of whom are students in public schools. To support their family, Veasna works as a small-scale farmer, and his wife sells vegetables at the local market. Veasna works construction jobs during the off-season to supplement their family's income. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, visiting his friends, and helping his wife with housework. Three years ago, Veasna underwent back surgery for sciatic pain, which led to a reduction in sensation in his feet. He stepped on a hot brick at work two years later and severely burned his left heel. Despite taking antibiotics, this wound has remained unhealed. The wound is currently producing discharge, which he shares is both unpleasant and painful. He is unable to walk on his left foot, preventing him from working. Veasna's wife now provides their family's sole income, and he shares that they are facing difficulty feeding their children and keeping them in school. When Veasna learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On August 11th, surgeons at CSC will perform an excision of dead skin and a sural skin flap procedure to heal his wound and help him walk again. Now, he needs help funding this $673 procedure. Veasna shares, "I hope after surgery my foot will heal soon with no infection. I am hopeful I can walk without pain and can return to work to support my family."

Loeun is a retired farmer who is married and has two sons, two daughters, and 13 (lively!) grandchildren. He lives with his wife and one of their sons who works at a petroleum company. Because he is retired, Loeun stays home most of the time. He enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and visiting his local pagoda. Several years ago, Loeun developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him sensitivity to light and tearing. He has difficulty seeing clearly, recognizing faces, and walking outside in the bright sun. When Loeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 13th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Loeun shared, "I hope after surgery, I can see easily. I want to be able to visit my grandchildren, see their faces, and visit the ceremonies at our village pagoda."

Serey Vuth is a 20-year old taxi driver from Cambodia. He has three brothers and one sister, and enjoys listening to music and helping with the housework in his free time. When Serey Vuth was five years old, his face came in contact with an open flame. The burn has left contractures that have tightened the skin around his neck and lips. This makes it difficult for him to move his head, and often causes itchiness and difficulty sleeping. When Serey Vuth learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. Surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to move his head and neck easily and no longer have any discomfort. Now, he needs help to fund this $448 procedure. "I hope that my surgery will go well so I will be able to use my head and neck fully and there will be less scarring," shared Serey Vuth.

Kenyabumba is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a widow with nine children. Kenyabumba has had a left nasal canal swelling for about eight years. It has continued to increase in size and sometimes causes her headaches. Kenyabumba traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On December 19, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Kenyabumba needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Kenyabumba says, “I will be glad when I get better and free from this condition and continue with farming after surgery.”

Mugarura is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He is married with three children. For five years, Mugarura has had a right inguinal hernia. He complains of pain and difficulty moving, and so he can no longer farm as productively. Fortunately, on July 24, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Mugarura's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. Mugarura says, “I hope I can be relieved of this condition so as I may work hard for my family.”

Ion is a government worker from Cambodia. He has two sons, one daughter, and one grandchild. He likes watching the news on TV. A year ago, Ion developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him photophobia and blurred vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Ion learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On July 4, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $211 procedure. He says, "I hope I can return to work and spend time with my family."

Nshabomwe is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He is married and a father of ten children. For three years, Nshabomwe has had an umbilical hernia. This hernia causes him pain and discomfort, and if not treated, he may suffer tissue twisting and blockage. Fortunately, on June 26, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Nshabomwe's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Nshabomwe says, “I hope to be treated of this condition and I continue with farming after surgery.”
