Loeun is a retired farmer who is married and has two sons, two daughters, and 13 (lively!) grandchildren. He lives with his wife and one of their sons who works at a petroleum company. Because he is retired, Loeun stays home most of the time. He enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and visiting his local pagoda.
Several years ago, Loeun developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him sensitivity to light and tearing. He has difficulty seeing clearly, recognizing faces, and walking outside in the bright sun.
When Loeun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 13th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Loeun shared, “I hope after surgery, I can see easily. I want to be able to visit my grandchildren, see their faces, and visit the ceremonies at our village pagoda.”

Loeun underwent cataract surgery to improve his vision.
Loeun had mostly confined himself indoors due to the effects of his cataract. This was hard for him after 60-plus years of working outside in the fields. We’re so glad to share that his eye surgery was successful, and he returned home to his province with eye drops to aid in healing and avoid infection. He is delighted to see the rice plants individually instead of a gray-green blur and looks forward to helping his children with the harvest this year. This will uplift his spirits and allow him to enjoy the family that surrounds him.
Loeun’s wife said: “I’m happy my husband can see well again. He can go outside by himself and walk to the pagoda alone. This makes him happy. Thank you to the people who helped him to have this surgery so he can see well again.”
