Jenifer is a 50-year-old farmer from Uganda. She is a married mother to nine children; three of her children are married and the rest are still in school. Her husband works in construction, while Jenifer farms for a living. For four years, Jenifer has been experiencing lower abdominal pain, discharge, headaches, backaches, and dizziness. She has been diagnosed with a premalignant cervical lesion and abnormal uterine bleeding. Jenifer shared that her condition has prevented her from doing her normal activities, and she has visited the hospital several times hoping for help and healing. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Jenifer to receive treatment. On November 4th, she will undergo a hysterectomy, or a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Now, she needs help raising $219 to fund her procedure and care. Once recovered, Jenifer will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Jenifer shared, "I wish I could be relieved from this condition to gain back my strength for farming which is my main source of income."

Nat is a 48-year-old farmer from Cambodia. He is married and has 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Two of his daughters are married, and the other lives at home and is a seller of fish in the local market. His wife is a farmer and a fish seller too. For at least 7 months, Nat has experienced pain in his right hip. He was treated at a clinic by injection but only had brief relief from the pain. He visited our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) in April but was unable to have surgery due to the pandemic. Nat returned recently and is in constant pain from his right hip. He is unable to walk without a crutch, his gait is unbalanced, and he is now unable to work. At CSC, surgeons can perform a total hip replacement to relieve Nat of his pain and allow him to walk easily. Treatment is scheduled for November 24th, and Nat needs help raising $1,087 to pay for this procedure. "I hope the pain in my hip will go away and I can return to farming and supporting my family," shared Nat.

Theary is a 53-year-old rice farmer who is married with three daughters and one grandchild. These days, she does not work on the farm as often. Mostly, she watches her grandchild at home while her daughter and husband work on the farm. She also enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio. Three years ago, Theary developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her sensitivity to light, blurry vision, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Theary learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 5th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Theary shared, "I hope after surgery my eye can see better so I can return to planting rice and seeing my family."

Meet Ken, a seven-year-old boy from Kenya. He is the third and youngest child in his family. Ken's legs are not developing normally. He struggles to walk because his left leg does not reach the ground. At school, Ken endures name-calling. His mom, Lydia has to ignore superstitious village opinions on her quest to seek medical help for her son. “He came home from school one day and told me that children in his school had a nickname for him because of the way he walked. In his childlike faith, he told me that God would heal him of the condition when he was older and then the children would stop laughing at him,” Lydia told the staff at CURE international, almost in tears. Ken needs a procedure called a left posterior tibialis tendon transfer. This involves transferring tendon from one part of his foot to another to give it proper support. For $1,000 the procedure will allow him to walk on two flat feet and relieve the pressure on the various joints that have had to compensate for the imbalance. His mother says, "I am eager for his healing, I want those who still hold backward beliefs and those who have laughed at me and my child to believe that there is indeed a God in heaven.” Let's help Ken get walking on two feet!

Ann is just six-days-old and fighting a tough battle. Born to loving parents in Kenya, Ann has an exposed mass on the lower part of her back, part of a condition called spina bifida. The mass reduces blood supply to her spinal nerves, and causes damage to her spinal cord. Doctors say that if it continues to grow, Ann may develop a curved spine (scoliosis) and incontinence. She is also at increased risk of infection because of it. Ann’s father provides for her family by working as a carpenter, but his wages are not enough to cover the cost of surgery. Ann’s mother says, “I pray and hope that my baby will receive treatment soon, and be able to live a healthy life.” For $980, Ann will receive surgery to close the mass on her back. She will be at much less risk of infection and nerve damage. Let’s help Ann and her family move forward with their lives together!

Meet Vivian! Born just six weeks ago in Kenya, Vivian is the youngest of six children in her family. Vivian’s mother cares for and supports the family independently by running her own business. Vivian was born with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess fluid builds up in the brain. It is likely that Vivian will lose her sight and experience other complications due to brain damage if she doesn't have surgery. However, her family’s meager income cannot pay for a procedure to relieve Vivian from the complications associated with hydrocephalus. Vivian’s mother says, “It is my hope that my daughter will get the needed treatment, and that she will get well soon.” For $980, we can fund a shunt incision treatment that will drain the excess fluid in Vivian’s brain and reduce the pressure in her head. Let’s support Vivian, and help her grow into a loving sister and daughter who can enjoy life with her family!

Meet Brian, a 12-year-old boy from Guatemala. He is a hard worker who previously enjoyed going to school, where he was a high performing student. Brian was recently diagnosed with a seizure disorder that severely limits his ability to participate in daily activities. He is confined to his home, unable to attend school and socialize with friends. Brian’s family is frightened, but hopeful that Watsi donors can help him access medical care to restore his health. For $1,050, Brian can receive a neurology consultation and neurological testing, as well as medication to treat his seizures. Additionally, he will receive long-term follow-up care. This treatment should stop Brian’s seizures and allow him to return to school. Let’s help this dedicated student get back to school!

Say hello to Paul, a 51-year-old husband and father of five from Kenya. Paul works as a teacher while his wife takes care of the children at home. Last year, Paul was in a car accident that led to several injuries, including a fractured femur and leg infection. He is in severe pain and cannot walk without help. Paul took out a loan to pay for the initial treatment he received after the accident, but does not have enough to afford the additional healthcare needed. Paul now needs $1,500 to treat the fracture and infection in his leg. Without it, his leg may need to be amputated. Paul says, “I thank God that I did not die in the car accident. My prayer is that I get well so that I can go back to work and take care of my family." Let's help answer Paul's prayers by getting him the care he needs!

Meet one-year-old Suzan from Tanzania! The youngest of five children, she is the daughter of two loving parents. Her father owns a small secondhand clothing shop, and her mother recently began work as a shopkeeper. Together, they earn enough to cover basic needs and tuition fees for two of the five children. However, it will be a big challenge for them to afford treatment for Suzan's facial tumor. A happy baby, Suzan is very friendly and loves to be carried around. However, because of her large facial tumor and its position near her nose, she has trouble seeing and difficulty breathing. Her mother tells us, “Suzan is loved by everyone in the family. We all hope that she can be treated. I long to see her beautiful face and wish for her to live a normal life without people staring at her face, wondering what is wrong with her." Let's work together to raise $900 for a tumor excision and facial reconstruction. With this surgical treatment, Suzan will not only be able to see and breathe better, she will also develop a more normal appearance.

Chouma is an intelligent and driven 34-year-old woman from Haiti. She was studying to be an engineer but stopped attending university when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chouma has difficulty doing daily tasks and no longer participates in activities she enjoys because of the pain in her chest and arm. She feels embarrassed by her illness and hasn't shared her diagnosis with many people. Chouma remains hopeful and looks forward to the future. She plans to get married, begin a family and resume her studies. Additionally, Chouma wants to start a support group for other women with breast cancer. With your help and support Chouma will receive several treatments for her cancer, including surgery, chemotherapy and hormone therapy. These treatments cost $1,500. Khin Pa loves to learn and wants to be a teacher when she grows up. Several months ago, she broke her right thigh bone. Unable to walk, Khin Pa stopped attending school. Her parents paid over a day's worth of their combined wages to take her to a clinic. Despite their efforts, she did not receive proper care and has been immobile ever since. Khin Pa needs immediate care to repair her broken leg and the right medication to treat her enlarged lymph nodes. The income her parents earn as carpenters and day laborers is hardly enough to provide for the daily needs of their family of seven, let alone pay the $2,000 needed for Khin Pa's treatment. With our help, Khin Pa can get the medical care she needs to be healthy and mobile again so she can return to school and fulfill her dreams of becoming a teacher!

Victor is a happy infant from Kenya. His proud parents are hoping that their young son will be able to grow up normally. Victor was born with a cranial meningocele, which means part of the overlying membrane protecting his brain protrudes through an opening in his skull. The increased pressure in Victor’s head causes vomiting, irritability, and if left untreated could lead to brain damage and social isolation later in life. Victor’s father is a night guard at their local shopping center and his mother is a homemaker. The family is struggling to repay hospital debts incurred for Victor’s previous medical care and can’t afford the final surgery needed to remove the mass on his head.
