Growing surgical access in East Africa
In 2024, we grew to serve nearly 50% more patients than the previous year in Africa. With the launch of our multi-year support from a generous foundation focused on increased access in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, we provided even more life-changing care for patients, strengthened our medical partnerships with frontline teams, and advanced global health equity through innovative, community-driven solutions.

Launching the Emergency Surgery Program
In 2024, Watsi launched our Emergency Surgery Program to provide urgent, life-saving care for maternal health emergencies, trauma, and critical injuries. Co-designed and created with community-based medical partners, this program streamlines case management and rapid funding for patients. Expanding Care in Ethiopia with a new Medical Partnership
In 2024, Watsi expanded our reach by launching a new medical partnership with Saglan Wajee General Hospital in Ethiopia, and helped support: Nimona. With our partnership, the hospital furthers their commitment to reserve at least 30% of services for those in need who otherwise would not have access to care. Together, we’re ensuring more communities receive life-changing healthcare.

Championing women’s health through global advocacy
In 2024, Watsi championed women’s health by funding life-saving surgeries, breaking financial barriers, and bringing a human face to the global advocacy movement. As a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Alliance for Women’s Health, we advanced solutions for closing the women’s health gap—helping bring an estimated $1 trillion boost annually in global GDP, while restoring dignity, saving lives, and strengthening communities worldwide.

In partnership with Watsi, Membean is building a philanthropic model that blends corporate generosity with action. Along with support for patient care, the Membean team—many former educators with a passion for writing—joined Watsi for a volunteer power hour to share our patient’s stories.
Valentino’s heart surgery, fully funded
Bolivia
Valentino, a preschooler from Bolivia, was born with a heart defect that made everyday activities exhausting. Thanks to the generosity of 30 donors, including many from our Universal Fund community, he received life-saving heart surgery. His $1,500 surgery will ensure a healthy, active future!

Watsi joined social impact entrepreneurs from around the world in Oxford for the 2024 Skoll World Forum. Watsi shared our people-powered philanthropic model as a playbook for how to make a tech-enabled, radically transparent, and tangible impact.

Children from Haiti traveled 6,353 miles to Egypt to finally access life-saving heart surgery, made possible by Watsi’s long-standing partner, International Cardiac Alliance. Overcoming immense barriers to care, this journey marked a new chapter in their health and future.
