Chan Phally is a five-year-old kindergarten student. She lives with her parents in Cambodia. Chan Phally likes to play with toy cars and paint pictures.
Chan Phally has a type of congenital strabismus in her left eye called exotropia. This condition causes her eye to turn outward.
“I worry about her feeling shy when she grows up,” said her mother, “and not feeling good about herself to study and work.”
Her family knew of Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), because her mother’s cousin had undergone surgery with them. Chan Phally traveled for two hours with her mother to reach CSC for treatment.
On October 31, eye surgeons at CSC performed a corrective surgery to straighten Chan Phally’s eye. Her family needs help to fund this $264 procedure.

Chan Phally successfully received vision-restoring eye surgery.
Chan Phally’s eye treatment went well! Since surgery, Phally’s vision has improved and she feels much more comfortable in her own skin. She was given eye ointment to fight bacterial infections, and is currently on track to a full recovery.
“I am very happy that my daughter looks better,” shares Phally’s mother. “She doesn’t have to feel shy around other people when she grows up. I am grateful. I don’t have to worry about her eyes anymore.”
