Ratha is an 11-year-old girl from Cambodia who studies in the fifth grade. She has two brothers and one sister. Ratha likes to read books, listen to stories, and watch television. On March 10, 2016, Ratha's left hand was injured in a sugarcane machine. She was treated at a local hospital, but her symptoms did not improve. Ratha then traveled three hours with her mother to reach Watsi's medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). She underwent an open reduction internal fixation procedure on August 16, during which doctors reset her broken bones and fixed them together using pins. Most recently, on October 28, Ratha returned to CSC to have the pins removed from her middle finger. This procedure will relieve her of her pain and allow her to use her left hand comfortably. "I hope to have a normal finger again," says Ratha. Let's help fund her $411 procedure.

Chan Phally is a five-year-old kindergarten student. She lives with her parents in Cambodia. Chan Phally likes to play with toy cars and paint pictures. Chan Phally has a type of congenital strabismus in her left eye called exotropia. This condition causes her eye to turn outward. "I worry about her feeling shy when she grows up," said her mother, "and not feeling good about herself to study and work." Her family knew of Watsi's medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), because her mother's cousin had undergone surgery with them. Chan Phally traveled for two hours with her mother to reach CSC for treatment. On October 31, eye surgeons at CSC performed a corrective surgery to straighten Chan Phally's eye. Her family needs help to fund this $264 procedure.

Estuardo is an 8-month-old boy from Guatemala. He has been diagnosed with acute malnutrition. This means he has little energy to grow, and his immune system is weak and vulnerable to illness. He is also at risk of chronic disease and delayed development. Fortunately, Estuardo began malnutrition treatment on October 28, 2016. Estuardo is an only child, and he lives with his family in an adobe house. He loves to play with his stuffed animal. His father works as a day laborer, and his mother weaves textiles for a living. They cannot afford to pay for this $512 treatment. While malnutrition can have devastating effects, it is also very treatable. Growth monitoring, micronutrients, and food supplementation will help Estuardo recover. He will gain weight and grow taller to catch up with other children his age, and his immune system will grow stronger. Community health workers will teach his mother about creating a nutrient-rich diet from limited resources. Treatment will give Estuardo a chance to grow healthy and strong. "I hope that he grows well, and he is able to grow taller and gain weight so he's healthy for his age," says his mother. "In the future, he can go to school and be a professional."
