Daphine is a sociable 45-year-old woman from Uganda. Born into a large family of 13 children, she went to school until Primary 5, but had to drop out due to her family's financial constraints. Daphine later got married at 17, and together with her husband, they have 5 children. To sustain their household, she and her husband engage in farming, mainly growing food crops for home consumption and selling the surplus to earn income. For about two years now, Daphine has been experiencing uncomfortable gynecological symptoms. Her symptoms subsided after seeking treatment, but about nine months ago, the symptoms recurred, this time more severely. She again sought care at our medical partner's care center, Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale, where she was treated by a gynecologist, and her condition temporarily improved. Unfortunately, the symptoms have since returned, prompting further investigations. Daphine has been diagnosed with a premalignant cervical lesion. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $219 to fund Daphine's surgery. On March 5th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Karoli Lwanga Nyakibale Hospital. Once recovered, Daphine will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Daphine says, “There has never been a day that passes without bleeding. I am very worried for my health, but have no way of affording the funds needed for my surgery. I kindly request your support.”

Eyu is a calm and sociable eight-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He is very talented in football and dreams of one day becoming a priest. He lives with his parents and his older brother in a rental house. His mother works as a teacher, while his father is currently unemployed. About six years ago, Eyu was unwell and when he was taken to hospital, he was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. His parents were advised that he needed surgery, but he needed to be a bit older. Recently, his parents once again took him to hospital and were placed on a waiting list for surgery. Shortly after, they received a referral call to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). Eyu is receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH). He is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on May 19th, and AMH is requesting $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. If the condition is left untreated, Eyu has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Eyu's father says, "I thank God for the support we are getting for our son's surgery. I am also so happy to feel welcome at BKMCM. Koemsoeun is a hardworking father and former motorbike taxi driver from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Cham province with his wife, who sells vegetables at a local market, and their three children. The eldest serves in the army, the second helps their mother at the market, and the youngest is in Grade 8. In his free time, he plants vegetables around his home. Two years ago, Koemsoeun was involved in a traffic accident that injured his right proximal tibia. After the accident, he was taken to a hospital in Vietnam, where he underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgery. However, the wound did not heal properly and was infected. He sought treatment at a government hospital in Cambodia, where the metal implant was removed. Despite this treatment, his condition did not improve, and the wound continues to cause pain, swelling, and infection. When Koemsoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On March 11th, surgeons at CSC will perform a debridement procedure to remove the damaged and infected tissue from his wound. After recovery, he is expected to walk normally again, reduce pain and infection, and resume his daily activities and ability to support his family. Koemsoeun can contribute $342, but needs help raising the remaining $342 to fund his proceure and care. Koemsoeun said, “I am very grateful for the support that helps me receive this treatment. I hope my leg will heal so I can walk normally and support my family again.”
