Say hello to Mu Lar, a 20-year-old woman from Cambodia. Mu Lar has a cardiac condition which causes her fatigue and heart palpitations, making her daily activities difficult. She’s been married for a year, and hopes to start a family with her husband soon, but her condition makes getting pregnant too risky.
Our medical partner, Burma Border Projects, says, “She gets tired when she makes even the smallest movement. Whenever she gets sick with a cold or flu she turns blue and has difficulty breathing.”
Mu Lar and her family live in rural Burma, and are able to grow most of their own food by planting seasonal crops. Because of her heart condition, Mu Lar has been unable to help her husband with farming activities and chores around the house.
Mu Lar and her husband say, “Our first wish is for her to get treatment. We are still so young, so after Mu Lar has fully recovered, we will try again to have a family.”
Burma Border Projects was able to raise $2,310 towards Mu Lar’s treatment, but they are counting on Watsi donors for the remaining $1,500 so Mu Lar can get the cardiac treatment she needs to be strong and healthy again.

Mu Lar received surgery to treat her heart condition.
“Now that I have finished my treatment I want to go back to work when I have fully recovered,” Mu Lar says. “My husband and I are very eager to have a child - when I go back to the hospital for my follow up I will ask the doctor when I can get pregnant again. Having a child means a lot for my family.”
“Now that Mu Lar has had total correction surgery she says that she is still in slight pain and needs to rest,” her doctor at our medical partner Burma Border Projects writes. “Currently, she cannot eat or sleep very well, but that isn’t surprising considering that she has had open heart surgery. She says it will take a while for the pain to reduce - but when it does, she will feel so much better than before. Unlike before, she said she can now walk further without feeling tired, she has more energy and says that she can breathe easily now. Despite the pain Mu Lar said she is so happy to have received treatment and is really excited to return home and see her family. They have been very worried for her, but now - they don’t need to worry any more.”
