Fira is a five-month-old baby girl from Ethiopia, the first child of her parents. She loves to play with her mum and taking baths. Her parents are small-scale farmers, and their income from their harvest covers the family’s basic necessities.
Fira was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital condition that can cause a partial or complete intestinal blockage. Soon after her birth, her parents visited a branch of the Missionaries of Charity, where they received guidance and support to reach our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). At the hospital, Fira was reviewed and doctors advised that she would need to undergo a series of procedures to correct the condition. Unfortunately, her parents are finding it hard to pay Fira’s medical expenses.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Fira receive treatment. On July 25th, she will undergo surgery to treat her condition and reduce the her risk of developing health complications in the future. Now, Fira’s family needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure.
Fira’s father says, “I hope that my child undergoes successful surgery, and is able to go to school when she grows up, just like any other child”
