Takondwa is a 12-year-old student from Malawi. He lives with his mother, a single parent, who works as a cleaner.
About four years ago, Takondwa was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. Due to the condition, he has been experiencing abdominal pain, and on-and-off swelling episodes, which have affected his daily activities.
A few days ago, Takondwa and his mother were referred to our medical partner’s care center, Parters in Hope Medical Center (PIH), where the diagnosis was confirmed, and surgery was recommended to relieve Takondwa’s symptoms. His mother, however, cannot afford the required amount for surgery treatment, and is seeking support.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Takondwa receive treatment. On September 9th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at PIH. Takondwa’s mother is hopeful that the treatment will help her son get better and concentrate at school, so that she can also concentrate better at work. Now, Takondwa’s family is requesting $575 to fund this treatment.
Takondwa’s mother says, “Your support will be highly appreciated. This is a very kind and unique gesture. I have never seen anything like it in my life.”
