Haymanot is a two-year-old girl from Ethiopia. Her father is a soldier who was called to war when her mom was in the early stages of pregnancy. He left before they knew she was expecting. Her mother earns a living by washing clothes. Since birth, Haymanot has had an umbilical hernia, where the intestine protrudes through the abdominal muscles at the belly button. This occurs if the muscles don't fully join together at the midline of the abdominal wall, having a protrusion on the belly button, which is often most noticeable in infants when they cry. Every hospital she visited advised her to take Haymanot to a hospital in Addis Ababa, the capital city, but she didn’t have the money for transportation. Fortunately, Haymanot and her mother were referred to our medical partner's care center, Bethany Kids Hospital, which provided them with funding for transportation and accommodations. On September 4th, Haymanot will undergo hernia repair surgery and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $487 to fund the procedure. Once completed, doctors expect that Haymanot will grow up to be a happy and healthy girl. Haymanot's mom said, “Now that we have found help, I believe she will become well.”

Naylah is a three-year-old girl from Tanzania. She is the fourth child in a family of five children. She has a twin and they are very close to each other. Naylah and her four siblings are raised by a single mother as their father abandoned them. She has found a means to earn a living by cooking and selling fried fish by the roadside. However, the money she makes is not enough to cover all their expenses. Naylah was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. Her legs began bowing outward, impacting her mobility. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, Naylah feels pain while walking and gets tired easily, spending less time playing with her siblings. Her mother is unable to find treatment for her due to their financial situation. A well-wisher who saw Naylah informed them about our medical partner's care center, Kafika House, where they can seek treatment for free. He also provided transportation money to get to the facility. Doctors examined Naylah and determined they can provide surgery and care for her. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $880 to fund corrective surgery and treatment for Naylah at Kafika House. The procedure is scheduled to take place on May 28th. The treatment will hopefully restore Naylah's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Naylah’s mother says: “I hope my daughter gets treatment. It will be good for Naylah and her twin to grow older enjoying life together. I hope this treatment will make her legs better.”

Srey Ny is a 28-year-old housewife from Cambodia. She lives in Kandal province with her husband, mother, two older sisters, and one brother-in-law. The family earns a small income by working in local construction jobs and a local hair salon. Srey Ny looks after the house and does most of the cooking. In her free time, she watches social media videos for new recipes, and likes to try them with her family. In July 2020, she was in a road traffic accident which resulted in a closed fracture of her left leg. Following the accident, she was taken to a public hospital where the doctors fixated hardware to heal her fracture. Now the fracture has healed, but she experiences discomfort while walking and performing her daily activities due to the hardware. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 1st, Srey Ny will undergo a hardware removal procedure to help her walk easily again. Srey Ny was able to contribute $100 towards her medical costs but needs help raising the remaining $204 in funds. After surgery, she hopes it will be easier to get around the house, shop in the market, and take care of her family.
