Tsega is a cheerful 11-month-old boy from Ethiopia, the youngest of three children in his family. His mother shares that Tsega’s vibrant smile brightens every room he is in, and he delights in playing with his family, especially his older brother and sister. He lives with his parents and siblings in a rented house.
When Tsega was just three days old, his mother took him for a routine medical check-up. During a diaper change, she had noticed that something was quite not right. Drawing from her experience with her older son, she decided to seek medical review. A subsequent examination by the doctor, which included an ultrasound, confirmed her worries.
Tsega was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Baby Tsega has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. The news has caused his family anxiety and distress. Learning that surgery was necessary only deepened their concern. For 11 months, they struggled with the worry of how they would afford the procedure.
Tsega’s mother learned about our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM), through a relative who works there as a social worker, and she promptly visited the facility to seek care. At the hospital, Tsega’s diagnosis was confirmed, and he is scheduled for corrective surgery on March 10th.
Fortunately, Tsega is receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. His family needs help to raise $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care.
Tsega’s mother says, “I pray that my baby will be well after the procedure. May God protect him.”
