John is a 10-year-old boy from Kenya. John is the youngest of twin siblings in a family of six, raised by a single mother. His mother is a domestic worker, washing clothes and cleaning houses to support her six children. She relies on well-wishers and the church to assist with her children’s education while she works hard to provide food and shelter for them.
John has been struggling with severe pain in his lower abdomen for years. The pain has worsened to the point where he can no longer walk for long periods or play football, his favorite game. Despite several visits to different hospitals, no clear diagnosis was made. In October 2024, his mother brought him to a hospital, where scans revealed that water had built up in his right inguinal area, causing the pain. He needs surgery to drain the water and relieve his discomfort. When John is in pain, he is unable to move and often cries. The pain is also unpredictable, taking John away from playing with friends and enjoying life.
Fortunately, on November 25th, John will undergo corrective surgery with our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. Unable to afford the surgery, John’s family needs $585 to fund the surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably.
John says, “I can’t play football anymore because the pain is just too much to bear.”
