Porheang, a 41-year-old custodial worker from Phnom Penh, lives with her mother. Recently, her father passed away, which has led her to dedicate most of her time to supporting her family in making funeral arrangements and preparing for the upcoming Buddhist rituals. During her free time, she finds enjoyment in watching Cambodian soap operas. Around three years ago, Porheang had an ear infection. This infection caused her left ear's tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, to perforate. For this reason, Porheang experiences pain, ear discharge, tinnitus, and hearing loss. She cannot communicate clearly with others as she used to and frequently spends her limited money at the pharmacy for medications that do not work long-term. Porheang traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 19th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, requests $487 to fund this procedure covering medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She shared, "I hope I can feel better and hear my friends and family."

Ol is a retired rice farmer from Kampong Cham province who needs eye surgery to help him see clearly again. He and his wife have one daughter, three sons, and ten grandchildren. They used to be rice farmers, but now they are both retired and their living is supported by their children, who farm the same ancestral land. At home, Ol likes to listen to the radio when the monks are chanting and read books about the Buddha. One year ago, Ol developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision. He used to help his wife with housework and cooking, but can no longer see well enough; he is frustrated that his vision has declined so quickly and shared that he feels useless to his family. When Ol learned about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On July 19th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Ol is able to contribute a small amount and he needs help with the remaining $253 to fully fund the procedure. Ol said, "I hope after surgery I will see better. I want to help the monks at the pagoda to teach and learn Buddhism and join their ceremonies easily."

Sovann is a friendly 14-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives with his mother and two siblings in Kandal province. His parents are divorced, and his mother works in a local factory to support the family. He is currently in the ninth grade and enjoys geography, history, and mathematics. At home, he likes to eat fried eggs, soup, and milk, and play football with his friends. Sovann would like to join the army when he is old enough. For six years, Sovann has been experiencing sore throats and difficulty swallowing. He snores at night and often experiences hoarseness in the mornings, making it difficult for him to talk. He was treated at a private clinic with medication, but his condition did not improve. The frequent illness has caused him to miss school. Sovann was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Sovann, which is scheduled to take place on April 28th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sovann of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. Sovann said: "I hope it will be easy to breathe again and I will feel good enough to play football with my friends."
