Margret is a 47-year-old mother of three children from Uganda. She studied up to senior school year two, but was unable to continue due to finances. To support her children, she engages in weaving mats and baskets for sale.
For two years, Margret has been experiencing lower abdominal pain, back pain, paralysis, and persistent bleeding. She also experiences dizziness and palpitations. She reports that the condition has severely affected her life. She fears socializing in public and has even ceased her craft due to her health. Margret visited several hospitals but was only given painkillers, which did not help. She also tried using local herbs, hoping for relief, but without success. A nurse advised her to seek help at our medical partner’s care center, Rwibaale Hospital.
Margret has been diagnosed with abnormal uterine bleeding secondary to endometrial hyperplasia. To relieve her pain and stop the bleeding, the doctor has recommended a total abdominal hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Margret is however unable to raise the funds needed for her treatment.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $253 to fund Margret’s surgery. On October 7th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Rwibaale Health Center. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully alleviate her symptoms.
Margret says, “I hope to recover and start working again, and be able to socialize in public.”
