Meshack is a one-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is the fifth child in his family. His mother is a preacher, and cares for her young children. Despite her responsibilities, she has made strong efforts to find specialized treatment for Meshack after noticing that his hand movement was becoming more restricted. When Meshack was very young, he sustained a burn injury on his right hand. Though the wound has healed, the scars have become tight over time, causing a burn scar contracture. The contracture has affected finger movement and palm opening, making it difficult for his hand to function normally as he grows. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Meshack receive treatment. On February 18th, surgeons at their care center will perform contracture release surgery and skin graft to greatly improve his hand development and future independence. Now, he needs help to fund this $832 procedure. Meshack's mother says, “His hand cannot open well, and I worry about how he will use it as he grows. I am praying he can get treatment and use his hand freely.”

Seang Hai is an 11-year-old monk from Cambodia. His father works as a construction worker, and his mother is a garment factory worker. He has an older brother, who is 17 years old, and a younger sister, who is 6 years old. Seang Hai is currently studying in Grade 4, where his favorite subject is mathematics. In his free time, he enjoys learning dharma. His favorite meal is fried pork, and he dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. When Seang Hai was around one year old, he was accidentally burned by hot water, which affected the 3rd and 4th fingers of his left hand and the 3rd finger of his right hand. Burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around his fingers. As a result, he has difficulty grasping objects and experiences mild pain during hand movements, limiting his daily activities. When Seang Hai's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On April 21st, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help release the contractures, improve movement and strength in his hands, reduce pain, and allow him to hold and use objects more easily in his daily life. Now, he needs help to fund this $652 procedure. Seang Hai's mother shared, “I hope after the surgery, he will be able to use his hands freely again, without pain, and live a happier life.”

Wendy is a 13-month-old girl living with her grandmother in Kenya. She was born at home and is currently under her grandmother’s care, as Wendy’s mother is hospitalized due to mental illness. The grandmother is responsible for caring for Wendy, her other children, and her sick daughter. She is unemployed and relies on farm produce for her family's survival. About three weeks ago, Wendy’s grandmother noticed a swelling around her belly button and observed that Wendy was crying excessively at night, which prompted her to take Wendy to hospital for medical evaluation. She has been diagnosed with an umbilical hernia, a tissue bulge that occurs near the belly button due to a weak spot in the abdominal wall. If left untreated, Wendy may develop complications such as severe pain, strangulation, or bowel obstruction. Fortunately, on May 11th, Wendy will undergo hernia repair surgery at Nazareth Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $517 to fund Wendy's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live healthier and more comfortably. Wendy's grandmother says: "I am so worried about my granddaughter's health. I will be so happy and grateful to receive support, so that Wendy can be well, and I will be able to work and take care of my family."
