Bisrat is a charming and sociable seven-year-old boy who lives with his parents and younger brother in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His father works in the education sector at a government organization, while his mother previously ran a coffee shop before pausing to focus on raising the children.
Bisrat was born with an undescended testicle, but the condition was at the start not obvious to his parents. After his mother gave birth to his younger brother, she noticed a difference between the scrotal areas of her two sons and became concerned. She took Bisrat to a nearby hospital for evaluation, where he was placed on a long waitlist for surgery, resulting in a four-year wait. His mother has been very worried about the potential risks of infertility and other complications as he grows older, and has visited the hospital many times to inquire about the wait.
Recently, Bisrat’s mother received a call from the hospital, informing her that Bisrat’s case had been transferred to our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). Upon arriving at BKMCM, Bisrat’s mother felt a wave of relief, and she learned that his surgery would be scheduled within weeks.
Bisrat is receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), and is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on December 2nd. AMH is requesting $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care.
Bisrat’s mother expressed her gratitude, saying, “I would like to thank God and everyone who is supporting my child throughout this journey. I hope for a safe and successful surgery for him.”
