Bahati is a two-month-old baby boy from Kenya. Bahati’s parents are small-scale farmers and rely on Bahati’s paternal grandparents to help support their four children.
Bahati was born via cesarean section and was referred to our medical partner’s care center, Bethany Kids KIjabe Hospital, for specialized care. Bahati was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which fluid builds up in the brain, causing the head to become enlarged. Bahati requires a shunt insertion surgery to drain the excess fluid, which will help restore the normal shape of his head over time. Without treatment, Bahati will experience severe physical and developmental delays.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $719 to cover the cost of surgery to treat Bahati’s hydrocephalus. The procedure, scheduled for November 18th, will drain the excess fluid from Bahati’s brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and significantly improve his quality of life. Hopefully, with proper treatment, Bahati will develop into a strong, healthy young boy.
Bahati’s mother says, “I love my son very much, and I know this condition is temporary and that he will be okay.”
