Wondimu is a bright and joyful little boy from Ethiopia who loves playing with his toys and spending time with his sisters. He is the third child and first son in the family. His parents were overjoyed at his birth, naming him Wondimu—an Amharic word meaning “my brother”—in memory of his late paternal uncle, whom his father had deeply loved.
Together, the family lives in a small, rented house a few kilometers from the city. Wondimu’s father works in a local barbershop, while his mother is a devoted homemaker. Life has not always been easy for the family, but they have shared a strong bond of love and togetherness.
Since birth, Wondimu’s parents have noted a swelling on the right side of his groin. At first, it would come and go, especially when he cried. Over time, however, the swelling became constant and began affecting his feeding. Concerned, his parents took him to a nearby hospital. The doctor there explained that surgery was the only option for treatment and referred them to a local hospital, but they could not afford the cost of care.
Several months later, Wondimu’s mother met a field patient coordinator who referred Wondimu for treatment with assistive funding. On September 23rd, Wondimu will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $512 to fund his treatment. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Wondimu’s mother says gratefully, “With God’s help, my child will be healed. I pray that he will grow up to become a great person.”
