Sokly is a 49-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He lives in Kandal with his widowed mother, who is a retired farmer. He divorced his wife four years ago, and his two children live with their mother. He has 11 siblings, all of whom are married and live in nearby provinces. In his free time, he enjoys looking after his ducks and chickens. One week ago, Sokly was riding his motorcycle in the rain when it slipped, causing him to fall and fracture his left proximal femur. He received first aid, but the hospital did not have the equipment needed for surgery, so he was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. The fracture causes significant pain and prevents him from putting weight on his left leg or walking. He currently needs assistance to move around, making it difficult for him to work as a construction worker and manage his daily activities. On August 11th, Sokly will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize his fractured femur, relieve his pain, and help him regain the ability to walk so he can return to his normal daily activities and work. His family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $550 more to fund his procedure and care. Sokly said, “I hope the surgery will stabilize my fractured femur, relieve my pain, and help me walk again so I can return to my normal daily activities and work.”

Gabriel is a six-year-old boy from Kenya who enjoys playing and learning new things. His father is a construction worker, but his income is not always steady, and there are times when it is difficult for him to provide even the basic needs of the family. His mother is a homemaker and depends on her husband’s income to support the household. Gabriel has struggled with his hearing since birth and has not been able to develop speech like other kids his age. His parents first became concerned when they noticed that he did not respond whenever they called his name. As Gabriel grew older, his difficulties became more noticeable, especially when he started school. He struggled to understand his teachers and could not communicate easily with his classmates. While other children followed lessons, interacted with one another, and participated in classroom activities, Gabriel found himself struggling to understand what was being taught. Doctors have recommended hearing aids to help him access sound and support the development of the communication skills he has been missing. For his family, this brought new hope that Gabriel could finally have an opportunity to hear and communicate with the people around him. Fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. Gabriel is scheduled to be fitted with hearing aids on October 2nd. He and his family need your help in raising $1,171 to fund the devices and his care. Hearing aids could help Gabriel build confidence and reduce the isolation he has experienced for much of his young life. "Seeing my son isolate himself from others pains me deeply. I just want him to hear, communicate, and interact with other children,” Gabriel’s dad shared.

Aye Aye is a 36-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband in a refugee camp in Thailand. She and her family moved to the camp in 2024 due to the conflict in her village in Karen State, Burma. She and her husband are teachers at the same school, earning a modest monthly income. The family’s combined income is enough to cover their daily expenses, and they receive basic health care at the hospital in the camp for free, but they cannot afford expensive treatment costs for advanced procedures. Aye Aye also periodically supports her mother, who remains in Burma, with financial assistance. During her free time, she loves to listen to gospel music while planning her teaching lessons, and enjoys going to church on Saturdays. Aye Aye is currently expecting her first child, and her baby is in a breech position. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section to ensure the safety of both mother and child during delivery. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, has scheduled Aye Aye for a C-Section on August 13th at their care center, Tha Song Yang Hospital. The procedure will cost $1500. Aye Aye said, “When I heard that I need to give birth through a C-section, I became so worried, and my husband is running around to ask for help as we both cannot afford this high cost. However, when the medic later informed us that there is an organization and they will find donors to help us with the delivery cost, we both felt so happy that we don't know how to explain how we feel.
