Rose is a 44-year-old wife and mother of two children from Haiti. She lives in a small town in central Haiti with her husband, two children, and her sister and her sister's children. Unfortunately, she has been too unwell to work for over five years, but previously sold electronics in a local market. Rose has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the four valves of her heart was severely damaged as a result of rheumatic fever a number of years ago. Her heart cannot adequately pump blood through her body, leaving her tired and short of breath. Fortunately, our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA), is helping Rose receive treatment. She will fly to the Dominican Republic for her surgery. On January 27th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will remove her diseased mitral valve and implant an artificial replacement. HCA is contributing $12,000 to cover the cost of Rose's procedure, but she and her family also need help funding the costs of surgery prep. Rose and her family need help raising $1,500 to cover labs, medicine, check-ups and follow-up appointments. This money will also support passport obtainment and the social workers from HCA that will accompany Rose's family overseas. Rose shared, "I have felt very sick for a very long time, and I am very hopeful that this surgery will bring me relief and new energy!"

Meat is a 51-year-old rice farmer who is married, and lives with his wife and three daughters in Kampong Speu province. His wife works in a local factory, while all of their daughters attend a nearby public school. When Meat isn't working, he enjoys helping his wife with their housework, and playing with his daughters. In November 2021, Meat fell off a motorbike and injured his knee. He has had chronic pain since the accident, but he didn't visit a doctor or a hospital for treatment due to cost and inaccessibility. Instead, he has tried to ease his pain with medicine he found at his local pharmacy. For the past three months, however, he said his pain has crippled him, and he is now unable to walk. Meat learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and sought their help. Now, on January 4th, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a joint arthrodesis procedure to fuse the bones in Meat's left knee, so that he will be able to walk without pain. Meat and his family need your help to fund this $600 procedure. Meat said: "I hope the doctors can fix my knee so I can work to feed my family."

SokKea is a 48-year-old traditional Khmer noodle seller. She was widowed twenty years ago, and now lives with her married son, who is a garment factory worker. At home, she likes to do housework and to take care of her grandchildren. Many years ago, SokKea developed nasal polyps, which are noncancerous growths in the lining of the nasal passage. For this reason, she experiences difficulty breathing. She frequently has a runny nose, and sneezes constantly. She tried different medications that she purchased at her local pharmacy, but none of them has been able to alleviate her symptoms. There are many times when she doesn't feel well enough to work, which puts a strain on the family's finances. SokKea learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and sought their help. Doctors diagnosed her with a deviated septum, in addition to the nasal polyps. She is now scheduled to undergo a nasal polypectomy on December 19th at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. After the polyps have been removed, SokKea should be able to breathe more easily. Now, she needs your help to fund this $319 procedure. SokKea said: "I hope after surgery I won't have any more pain in my nose, and I can breathe easily."
