Neema is a 40-year-old widow and mother of four. For the last five years, she has had an enlarged thyroid gland, presenting as a lump on her neck.
Last year, her symptoms worsened. “Neema gets severe pain after work and can not even sleep at night,” says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “She has palpitations and sometimes paralysis of the neck.”
Neema attempted to get surgery at a nearby hospital, but was told that she had to raise about $350 for the operation. She could not afford the surgery and had to forgo the procedure.
A friend referred her to another hospital where AMHF can cover the cost of her procedure. For $170, we can pay for surgery to remove Neema’s thyroid gland and stop the palpitations and pain.
Neema works hard by helping people dig farms and working other jobs in order to send her children to school. “She wishes to be well and look after her children with ease,” AMHF shares.
“I will be happy to live without this pain,” Neema shares.
