Mu is a 62-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her family in the village in Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, Thailand. She moved to Thailand for better job opportunities. She used to work as a day laborer, but sometimes she works as a domestic worker for her neighbor. She also collects rubbish around her area, selling recyclable materials for extra cash. However, since her accident, she is not able to work.
Early in September 2023, Mu went to her neighbor’s house to assist them with some housework. By the time she finished her work, she could not see clearly because it was dark. As a result, when Mu was walking down the stairs of her friend’s house to return home, she accidentally slipped and fell down the stairs.
Mu was diagnosed with femoral neck fractures on her hip joint. Doctors at our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot General Hospital, also found that she had tuberculosis, which required urgent treatment. When she recovered, she came back to the hospital to have her hip checked again. Mu underwent surgery for her right hip in March 2024. Since then, her right leg is no longer in pain. She can cook, do laundry, look after herself, and has started walking with crutches. However, she still experiences some discomfort while walking and feels some pain in her left hip while walking. She cannot walk properly and still needs to use crutches while walking.
Mu is scheduled for surgery on her left hip on December 6th. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), is requesting $1,500 to fund this procedure and Mu’s care. Once recovered, Mu should no longer be in pain and should be able to walk more and move more easily.
Mu’s daughter said, “I feel sorry for my mother that I cannot help her. I cannot afford to pay for the surgery as I am still studying and am only able to work part-time. I would like to say thank you very much to all the donors who will help pay for my mother’s second surgery on her left hip. Thank you very much.”
