Barkot is a quiet and shy boy from Ethiopia. He becomes sociable once he starts interacting with others. He enjoys playing football with his siblings. Barkot lives with his parents, uncle, and three siblings. His mother works as a secretary in a government organization, while his father is employed as a handicraft worker. Together, they work hard to provide for their family.
Barkot’s parents were unaware of his condition until he turned one year old, mistakenly believing it would resolve on its own. His mother, influenced by a family history of similar cases, was hesitant to take Barkot to the hospital out of fear of surgery. However, Barkot’s uncle was deeply concerned about his condition and frequently urged the family to seek medical attention.
Barkot was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Barkot has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future.
Fortunately, Barkot was referred to our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre, where he will undergo corrective surgery on November 11th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care.
Barkot’s uncle shared, “Thank you for the invaluable service you have provided us. May God bless you and grant you continued humility and success.”
