Werk, a three-year-old girl from Ethiopia, is a sociable and active little girl who loves playing football with her older brother. Her father works as a tailor, while her mother takes care of the household and their children. The war in the country affected their socioeconomic situation, making it more difficult for them to maintain a stable livelihood and meet their family’s basic needs.
Werk was born with an umbilical hernia, a condition in which tissue pushes through a weakened area around the belly button. It causes swelling, discomfort, and pain. For three years, Werk’s family continued facing the uncertainty of finding appropriate treatment. Living far from the capital city added another barrier, as reaching specialized medical services required travelling long distances.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Werk undergo treatment on October 12th. They are requesting $512 to fund Werk’s surgery and care. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.
Werk’s mother said, “Thank you so much to everyone who helped my daughter receive her surgery free of charge. I am very grateful to the donors for giving my daughter this opportunity to receive the treatment she needed.”
