Roeung is the oldest child in his family, living with his parents and younger sister in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. His father works as a security guard and his mother is a factory worker. Roeung is currently in grade two, where he enjoys studying Khmer and mathematics. His favorite food is Cambodian meatballs. In his free time, he loves playing with his friends and siblings.
Roeung was born with Tessier syndrome, a group of congenital craniofacial conditions that affect the development of the face and skull. This condition has caused facial asymmetry, a bifid nasal dorsum (split or double nose), and forehead abnormalities. His parents are worried that these features may affect his health, confidence, and social life as he grows up.
Fortunately, our medical center, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On December 2nd, Roeung will undergo a box osteotomy procedure where specialty surgeons will reposition the bones holding the eyes. The family has contributed $100 toward the cost of the surgery but they need additional support to cover the remaining $626, which will help with the surgery, recovery, medications, and follow-up care.
Roeung’s father shared, “ I hope Roeung will be able to grow up happily and focus on his studies.”
