Gavas is a three-year-old boy from Uganda. He lives with his parents, who are small-scale farmers, and his six-year-old sibling, who is a student. He loves to play with his sibling and friends, but lately, his health problems have interfered with his daily life.
About one year ago, Gavas developed painful swelling on the right side of his scrotal area. At first, the pain intermittent, but when it worsened and Gavas began to cry, his parents took him to a health center. The family was later referred to a larger hospital where surgery was recommended, but Gavas was not able to obtain surgery there.
Recently, Gavas’s parents were advised to visit our partner’s medical care center, Rushoroza Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a hydrocele. If left untreated, the condition may lead to testicular torsion and infection. Currently, Gavas experiences a lot of pain, and his parents worry he will not be able to start school.
Fortunately, on February 3rd, Gavas will undergo hydrocele repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $170 to fund Gavas’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Gavas’s father says, “I pray that my son receives treatment and gets well through surgery, so that he may be able to start school in future and also continue playing with his friends comfortably.”
