Josh is a young boy from Uganda. At just two years old, he is at a stage of growth where he has not yet begun to speak fluently. He can stand and is active, but remains quiet and shy, often hiding himself from onlookers as he and his mother wait at the reception for their interview. When they enter the room for their turn, his mother gently sets him down and hands him a phone. He immediately becomes absorbed with it, quietly pressing the buttons and paying attention to nothing else. His parents separated, and he and his sister live with their mother at their grandmother’s home. His mother does casual labor in other people’s gardens, earning barely enough to meet even their basic needs. Her greatest wish is to see her son healthy. She shares that Josh eats anything he is given and has no issues with feeding. Since birth, Josh has had a left inguinal hernia. After delivery, when his mother brought this to the attention of the doctors, she was advised that he needed to grow older before surgery could be considered. At first, he did not experience pain, but over time, whenever his mother pressed the swelling while bathing him, he would cry out in discomfort. Concerned, Josh's mother brought him to our medical partner's care center, Karoli Lwanga Hospital, where doctors explained he needed surgery. Due to her limited income, his mother cannot afford the surgery. She is asking for help so her son can receive the care he needs. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. On December 2, Josh will undergo hernia repair surgery, and he needs help to raise $230 to fund his procedure and care. Once completed, he should be able to live more comfortably. Josh's mother says, “Seeing my child's health get back to normal is all I dream of, only that I am not in a position to raise the money needed for his surgery, and kindly appeal for your support.”
