Meet Gedo, a two-year-old girl living in Ethiopia! She was born with anorectal malformation. She is not able to pass stool normally because she is missing the correct passageway. Because of this, Gedo has not been fed properly and is dealing with malnutrition.
Gedo comes from a very isolated nomadic society in a remote part of Ethiopia. Our hospital partner explains that people in the community live in temporary shelters, do not believe in educating their children, and are suspicious of any type of modernization, including hospitals. Gedo’s mother says, “If my baby is cured, this will be an opportunity for my community to open their minds up to modernization. Maybe my children may be educated in the future.”
For $1500, Gedo can receive surgery to correct the malformation, allowing her to pass stool normally. Let’s help Gedo, and while doing so, help her entire community experience the benefits of healthcare.
