Pov is a determined 17-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives in Kandal Province with his parents and is the youngest of five siblings, all of whom are married. His father sells drinking water, and his mother stays at home to care for the family and manage household tasks. He is currently studying in Grade 11 and enjoys physics. He dreams of becoming a doctor in the future. His favorite meals are soups, especially those with lots of vegetables, and he enjoys playing football with his friends in his free time. Eleven months ago, Pov sustained electrical burns to both hands in an accident. As the wounds healed, severe scar contractures developed, affecting the right first finger webspace and the left fifth finger. The scar contractures have tightened the skin and limited movement in both hands. This makes it difficult for him to grasp objects, hold items properly, and write his school lessons. He also feels self-conscious about the appearance of his scars and often hides them by wearing long sleeves. Pov sought treatment with our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). On May 21st, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve hand movement and restore better function. This treatment will help him write more easily, hold objects comfortably, and regain confidence in using his hands for daily activities and school. His family can contribute $25, but needs help raising $627 more to fund his procedure and care. Pov said, “I hope this surgery will help my hands move normally again so I can write my lessons easily, hold things without difficulty, and feel confident without needing to hide my scars anymore.”

San is a 53-year-old woman from Burma. San lives with her family in an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camp, located near the Thai border in Burma. She has three sons, two daughters, two daughters-in-law, and three grandsons. Her daughter works as a domestic worker, while her son serves as a soldier in the resistance forces. Like many others residing in the camp, San’s family has no income and relies on the camp’s medical team for healthcare. Currently, San continues to suffer from back pain, which is particularly problematic at night. She relies on pain medication to help her manage the pain. Due to this ongoing pain, San has been experiencing a loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, numbness on the left side of her body, itchy skin, and general body aches. San is scheduled to receive a CT scan on October 28th at Burma Children Medical Fund so doctors can have more information to diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. The CT scan and care will cost $469. San's son shares, "At first, all our siblings were incredibly stressed about our mother’s health condition. However, I am so happy to connect with your organization which supports vulnerable people in getting medical treatment. Thank you to your donors."

Kadia is a 32-year-old mother of three from Mali. She sells fish to earn income that sustains her family. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Kadia is currently expecting her fourth child. Due to a high risk pregnancy, doctors have recommend a cesarean section delivery. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, Muso, is helping Kadia undergo a cesarean section on August 4th. This procedure will cost $259, and Kadia needs your support.
