Samnang is a 43-year-old clothing seller from Cambodia. He is married and lives in Phnom Penh with his wife and their three children. Their eldest child is in Grade 9, their second in Grade 6, and their youngest in Kindergarten. He enjoys chatting with friends and helping his children learn. On October 21st, 2026, Samnang was involved in a motor vehicle accident that caused a closed fracture of his right proximal tibia, the upper part of his shinbone near the knee. The injury affected blood flow to his right leg, requiring external fixation to stabilize the fracture and a fasciotomy to relieve pressure. Although blood flow improved after the initial surgery, he still needs further treatment for his fracture and surgical wound. His injury makes it difficult to move around comfortably and return to his daily activities and work as a clothing seller, affecting his ability to earn an income and support his family. Samnang is scheduled for surgery on October 26th with the help of our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Surgeons at CSC will perform a debridement procedure to remove damaged tissue as needed, close the surgical wound, and promote proper healing. This is an important step in his recovery and will help prepare his right leg for continued treatment following the fracture. He can contribute $50, but needs help raising $367 to help fund his procedure and care. Samnang shares, “I hope my wound heals well and my right leg gets better. I want to be able to stand and walk comfortably again, return to my work as a seller, and go back to my normal daily life. I hope I can recover my independence and take care of my responsibilities again.”

Phors is a 35-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. Phors is married and lives with her husband, who works in a factory, and their two children, one in Grade 6 and the other in kindergarten. She enjoys listening to music and spending time caring for her children. Three months ago, Phors had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the eardrum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Phors experiences pain, ringing in her right ear, reduced hearing, and ear discharge. An examination found a perforation in her right eardrum, and she was diagnosed with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM). Her ear problems make it difficult for Phors to hear clearly and communicate comfortably with others. As a rice farmer and mother, she hopes to improve her hearing so she can manage her farming work and care for her children more comfortably. On October 27th, with the help of our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), Phors will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. She can contribute $100, but needs help raising $263 more to fund her procedure and care. Phors said, “I hope the surgery will help me hear better and reduce the problems with my right ear. I want to communicate more easily with others and continue my farming work comfortably. I’m looking forward to feeling better and returning to my daily activities without so much worry about my ear.”

Hector is a secondary school teacher from Malawi. He is married and has four children. To support his family, he works part-time. He traveled from Blantyre to Lilongwe seeking assistance for a surgical procedure known as an ileostomy reversal. Twelve months ago, Hector began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe abdominal pain. He was diagnosed with bowel obstruction. He subsequently underwent surgery and was advised to return after three months for reversal of the stoma. Unfortunately, this did not materialize due to limited access to surgical support. Since then, Hector has endured significant physical, social, and emotional hardship. Living with a stoma for an extended period has affected his ability to eat and sleep comfortably. He frequently experiences discharge, which has impacted him socially and in his community. As a result, he shared that he has felt isolated, lonely, and psychologically distressed. When Hector learned that Partners in Hope (PIH) was supporting patients requiring surgery, he decided to travel to Lilongwe in search of assistance. His greatest desire was to undergo ileostomy reversal surgery and regain the comfort, dignity, and peace of mind he once enjoyed. By the time he sought support, five months had passed since he had become due for reversal surgery. Fortunately, on September 28th, Hector was reviewed by a surgeon at our medical partner PIH, who confirmed his condition and emphasized the importance of proceeding with the ileostomy reversal, but he would need financial support. An ileostomy reversal is a surgical procedure that reconnects the bowel and restores the pathway for the passage of stool after a temporary stoma has been created. Physicians recommend a laparotomy, which is a surgery that opens up the abdominal cavity to treat his condition. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,244 to fund Hector's surgery. On October 2nd, he will undergo surgery at our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully greatly improve his quality of life. "I can see my life going down as time passes by. I came all the way from Blantyre because I trusted your support. Kindly help me get better so I can continue supporting my family," shared Hector.
