Sampor is a 9-year-old student from Cambodia. He is an only child who lives with his grandparents in Kampot province. His grandfather works on a banana farm, and his grandmother is a housewife. Sampor’s parents live in Phnom Penh, three hours away, for better job opportunities and send money home when they can. At school, Sampor enjoys studying Khmer and math.
In April 2024, Sampor suffered accidental burns on his right arm and leg when he and his classmates were playing with fire after school. Although Sampor received medical treatment at a public hospital in Kampot for the burns on his leg, he is still unable to fully straighten his right knee due to scar contractures.
When Sampor’s family learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, they traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 13th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him improve function and walk more easily again. Now, he needs help to fund this $495 procedure.
Sampor shared, “I hope he can have surgery and use his leg more easily so he can go to school and we won’t worry about his future.”
