Mingfou is a 3-year-old baby boy from Cambodia. He lives with his parents in the Kampong Cham province. His mother works at a bank and his father is in sales at a private company. Mingfou is not old enough to attend school and stays home with family or friends when his mother is at work. He loves to eat his mother's homemade bread and play with toys. Mingfou was born with Polydactyly, a condition in which a baby is born with one or more extra fingers. Mingfou has an extra thumb on his right hand that is small and abnormally developed. As a result, it is difficult for Mingfou to use his hand to grasp cups or other objects. Additionally, Mingfou's mother is concerned that other children will make fun of him if it is not corrected. Mingfou's doctor determined that the best treatment is surgery. His surgeon will remove the extra finger and then reshape the remaining fingers to create a more natural appearance. Fortunately, on April 28th, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) will perform a polydactyly repair procedure to remove the extra finger. After surgery, Mingfou will be able to easily use his hand. CSC is requesting $299 to fund this procedure. His mother said, "Our family hopes the extra thumb will be removed easily."

Teresiah is a 56-year-old woman from Kenya. She is the sixth of ten children and has one 20-year-old child of her own. She works as a domestic house helper in neighbors' houses. A couple of months ago, Teresiah began to experience symptoms such as swelling on the right side of her neck, feeling hot, headaches, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty swallowing. She was diagnosed with an enlarged right thyroid gland and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is helping Teresiah receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on March 27th where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. She and her family need help raising $625 to fund the surgery. Teresa shared, “I am requesting help so that I can be treated and be able to take care of myself and my child and not depend on my relatives.”

Mann is a retired farmer with three children and one grandson. These days she is very busy looking after her 3-year-old grandson while his parents work at a construction site. About four years ago, she noticed a mass forming on her cheek. Since then, she has been afraid to see a doctor, but her family finally convinced her to seek help. During her consultation, Mann was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma. She currently experiences discomfort and occasional bleeding. When Mann learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On March 2nd, surgeons at CSC will perform an excision of the mass and skin flap procedure to to help her feel comfortable again and stop the risk of cancer spreading. Now, she needs help to fund this $673 procedure. Mann shared that after surgery she hopes to go back home and resume taking care of her grandson without worrying about her face or cancer.
