Phionah is an 18-year-old young woman from Uganda. Phiona has faced many challenges since she was one-year-old, when her parents separated. She managed to complete Primary 7 but lacked the support to proceed further in her education. With limited options, her mother helped her find a job as a housemaid, but due to very low pay, she decided to quit. She later found work at an eatery in her neighborhood, but due to several hospitalizations during her pregnancy, she was unable to work. She has been living under the care of her aunt, a small-scale farmer, and helps with domestic chores at home.
Phionah is now 38 weeks pregnant, but the pregnancy period has been particularly difficult for her due to recurrent malaria since her first trimester. She is expecting her first child, and her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section due to a high-risk pregnancy. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Phionah undergo a C-section on October 16th. This procedure will cost $252, and Phionah needs your support.
Phiona says, “You are the only hope I am left with for the success of my delivery. Other than that, I don’t even know where else I would get support.”
