Mukundane is a 64-year-old gardener from Uganda. He is married and the father of nine children, who all have their own families. Mukundane cultivates food for home consumption and sells the surplus. He likes cows, and seeing them makes him happy.
In 2010, Mukundane started feeling pain in the left inguinal area, and later developed a swelling in the same area. Due to the pain, he is unable to lift heavy items. He goes to the fields to dig, but does so with much difficulty.
Mukundane visited a hospital where he was diagnosed with hernia. He was advised to have surgery, but since he could not afford the surgery, he was given medicine to temporarily relieve the pain. However, if left untreated, Mukundane may suffer many complications.
For $249, Mukundane will undergo hernia repair surgery. After surgery he hopes to continue working in the gardens.
