Vichana is a 16-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and younger siblings, who are also students. His father works as an electronics technician, while his mother runs a grocery business. Math is his favorite subject, and he enjoys playing football with his friends. He hopes to become a teacher one day. In November 2024, Vichana fractured his left leg after falling while playing sports. He was treated at a Government Hospital, where doctors placed a metal plate and screws in his left femur to stabilize the fracture and support healing. His fracture has now healed, and he can walk without pain. However, the hardware remains in his left leg and causes ongoing discomfort, making him feel bothered during his daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On September 3rd, Vichana will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will relieve the discomfort caused by the hardware and allow his leg to feel more natural and comfortable as he returns to sports and other activities. His family can contribute $100, but needs help raising $278 more to fund his procedure and care. Vichana said, “I hope removing the plate and screws will get rid of the discomfort and make my leg feel more comfortable. I look forward to continuing my studies, playing sports, and enjoying my daily activities without feeling bothered by the hardware.”

Menghab is a 24-year-old farmer from Cambodia. He lives in Kandal Province with his parents. He is the middle child of three siblings; his brother works in a factory, and his sister is in Grade 12. Before his injury, he worked as a rice farmer and enjoyed playing football with friends in his village. Menghab sustained a traumatic brain injury after being struck by a car while standing on the roadside. Following prolonged immobility during recovery, he developed severe pressure sores in different parts of his body. The condition has caused large, painful wounds that make it difficult for him to move, sit comfortably, and participate in daily activities. His recovery has been slow and complicated by repeated hospital admissions and ongoing weakness. Menghab learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and sought treatment. On June 3rd, surgeons at CSC will perform a skin graft procedure to help close the chronic wounds, promote healing, reduce pain, and prevent further infection, supporting his recovery and rehabilitation toward greater independence. Now, Menghab needs help to fund this $583 procedure. Menghab's father said, “My greatest hope is that my son will continue to recover, regain his strength, and become more independent through treatment and rehabilitation.”

Khan is a 37-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband and two sons in Phop Phra District, Tak Province, Thailand. She and her husband both work as agricultural day laborers. However, due to a recent accident, Khan is currently unable to work. As a result of the financial constraints caused by the loss of Khan's income, neither child can attend school, and the older child stays home to take care of his brother and the household chores. On July 1st, while walking in heavy rain to ask an employer for work, Khan slipped and fell. She used her left arm to push herself off the ground, and immediately felt severe pain. Because her arm wasn't swollen, and she desperately needed to keep working to support her family, Khan did not go to the hospital. Instead, she applied sesame oil as a traditional remedy. When her condition did not improve, Khan realized that she could no longer continue with things as they were. On July 21st, Khan borrowed money and went to a clinic, where an X-ray revealed a closed fracture in the left shaft of her radius. Khan’s arm is currently held in a bandage and remains slightly swollen. Her pain is managed by medication, but she experiences sharp pain if she tries to stretch or move it. With the help of our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Khan will undergo surgery to reset her fractured bones, which should ensure proper healing. The procedure is scheduled for August 10th at Mae Sot Hospital, and will cost $1,500. This procedure will help Khan to be able to use her left arm and to return to work.
