Meet Eang, a 58-year-old man from Cambodia. “Eang is married with one son, three daughters, and six grandchildren. Eang is a crop farmer, who enjoys reading the newspaper and listening to social news on the radio in his free time,” shares our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).
Three months ago, Eang developed a pterygium in his left eye. A pterygium occurs when growth starts on the clear tissue of the eye and spreads to the cornea. “This causes him to have blurred vision and experience tearing, irritation, and burning,” CSC explains.
After learning about CSC, Eang and his wife traveled seven hours to visit their clinic. They learned that a simple surgical procedure can restore Eang’s sight.
With $150, Eang will undergo an excision surgery, and his cyst will be removed. “The burning, pain, and irritation will be relieved. His left eye will look much better after the operation. The redness and tearing will also stop,” CSC explains.
Eang’s wife, who accompanied him to the clinic, shares, “I hope my husband has his cyst removed. I also hope that he will not worry about his vision and looks anymore.”

Eang received surgery to restore his vision.
“Eang’s pterygium was successfully removed,” reports our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). “He has been instructed to apply ointment daily to protect himself from infection.”
Through a quick surgery to remove the patch of clear tissue on his eye, doctors made it possible for Eang to go about his daily life free from the irritation, burning, tearing and blurred vision he was experiencing before.
“I can easily see something clearly now and have a much better feeling. I feel so happy that the cyst has been removed from my eye and I don’t have to worry about the cyst affecting my vision anymore,” says Eang.
His wife adds, “I feel so happy that my husband is looking good again and I don’t have to worry about his eye having a problem anymore.”
