Grace is a 15-year-old student from Uganda. “Grace still lives at home with her parents and has completed grade six. She is hoping to going back to school after her baby is born. Her favorite subjects are health science and mathematics. She would like to finish secondary school and then go on to train in a health science field, such as nursing or midwifery. When she is not in school, Grace enjoys hair braiding and hair styling,” explains our medical partner, the Kellermann Foundation. Grace is carrying a large baby and she needs a caesarean section in order to ensure a safe delivery and avoid complications such as a fistula (an abnormal connection between organs, in this case the vagina and rectum). $303 will fund not only Grace’s C-Section, but also her antenatal care, anesthesia, an ultrasound, and a five-day hospital stay. Grace is subsidizing the treatment with $8 of her own funds, but, as a single mother, she needs additional financial support to make this operation possible. Let’s help Grace ensure a safe birth!

Meet Eang, a 58-year-old man from Cambodia. “Eang is married with one son, three daughters, and six grandchildren. Eang is a crop farmer, who enjoys reading the newspaper and listening to social news on the radio in his free time," shares our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Three months ago, Eang developed a pterygium in his left eye. A pterygium occurs when growth starts on the clear tissue of the eye and spreads to the cornea. "This causes him to have blurred vision and experience tearing, irritation, and burning," CSC explains. After learning about CSC, Eang and his wife traveled seven hours to visit their clinic. They learned that a simple surgical procedure can restore Eang’s sight. With $150, Eang will undergo an excision surgery, and his cyst will be removed. “The burning, pain, and irritation will be relieved. His left eye will look much better after the operation. The redness and tearing will also stop,” CSC explains. Eang’s wife, who accompanied him to the clinic, shares, “I hope my husband has his cyst removed. I also hope that he will not worry about his vision and looks anymore.”

Meet 63-year-old Sang from Cambodia. She's a mother to seven and grandmother to 20. "Sang's vision has been blurred vision for the past year because of cataracts," Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) tells us. "She cannot see anything clearly which makes it hard for her to conduct daily activities to care for her home and big family." With $150, clinicians at CSC will be able to restore Sang's vision by removing the cataracts from her eyes. "She likes to listen to the monks praying and misses being able to visit the pagoda on her own," CSC writes of Sang. Let's get Sang's care taken care of - and get her back to the pagoda, too.

“Felipa really enjoys going to school, but she feels limited because she’s often sleepy (her tonsils keep her from feeling well),” our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq tells us. Say hello to Felipa, a 16-year-old K’iche’ Maya girl from the highlands of Guatemala who has enlarged tonsils. Her condition results in multiple painful throat infections each year. She also experiences periodic “choking” sensations in the middle of the night, due to her tonsils closing off her throat. As a result, she does not sleep well and usually misses school. Felipa is hopeful that she will be able to get tonsillectomy done so that she can recover quickly and get back to her studies. Without treatment, her throat infections will continue to hinder her ability to receive an education. “One day, I hope to help the people in my community like you are helping me,” says Felipa. As you can see, $590 can start a cycle of good will that will endure for the future.
