Adonia is a retired reverend and farmer from Uganda. He is a married father to six children, and two have just finished university but haven’t gotten jobs yet. The other four are still in secondary school. He is a reverend by profession and retired three years ago. He currently earns a living from farming where he runs a banana and coffee plantation. He also has a few milk cows but since he uses outdated agricultural methods due to limited finances, their productions are always for only home consumption. He operated the farm together with his wife and children whenever they are in holidays.
Since 2003, Adonia began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty in swallowing, experiences difficulty in breathing. He was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. He needs surgery to prevent his symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Adonia receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on June 2nd at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of his thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and he and his family need help raising money.
Rev Kibangira shared: “I hope that my surgery will go well, I hope to get well after surgery so that I can continue with work and health.”
