Nan is a 59-year-old woman from Burma. She lives in a refugee camp in Tak Province, Thailand. She moved there in 2006 with her children to look for better educational opportunities. She lives in a large household of 15 people, including her husband, three eldest daughters, five sons, two sons-in-law, and four grandchildren. One of her daughters works in the clinic in the camp. Her husband recently had a stroke, and one of her sons-in-law has an amputation that prevents him from working. During her free time, Nan Aye likes to listen to the radio and plant vegetables in her garden.
In December 2023, Nan began feeling symptoms of severe back and side pain and trouble passing urine. Doctors want Nan to undergo a CT scan, a procedure in which x-ray images taken from several angles are combined to produce cross-sectional images of the body. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $693 to cover the cost of Nan’s CT scan and care, scheduled for November 25th.
Nan’s daughter said, “On behalf of my mother, thank you so much for supporting her treatment cost. I cannot imagine what would have happened to my mother without your support, as we could not afford the treatment”.
