Richard is a ten-month-old baby boy from Haiti. His father is a motorcycle driver and his mother is a vendor. Richard was born with a heart condition called ventricular septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus, where a hole exists between the two lower chambers of his heart and a second hole exists between two major blood vessels next to his heart. Blood leaks through these holes, leaving him weak and unable to gain weight. Richard will fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment and will undergo heart surgery on May 3rd. During the procedure, surgeons will close the two holes so blood can no longer leak. Another organization, Gift of Life International, is contributing $5000.00 to pay for the surgery. However, Richard's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery preparations and travel. Our partner, International Cardiac Alliance, requests $1,500 to cover labs, medicines, and doctors' appointments. It also supports securing passports and travel documents for the social workers who will accompany Richard's family overseas. Richard's mother says, "Our family is praying that the surgery goes well so that our son will grow strong and healthy."

Thea is a 55-year-old father of four from Cambodia, who lives with his wife and two of his children. His two older children moved out of home to nearby towns to seek job opportunities. Both Thea and his wife work as rice farmers, and their older children occasionally send money home to help support the family. Thea likes spending time with his family, and watching Cambodian and Thai boxing. In January this year, Thea was in a motorcycle accident near his home and fractured his left shinbone. He was treated in a provincial hospital but the fracture did not heal properly and currently there is still some bone exposed. Thea is presently in chronic pain and discomfort, unable to walk or work. When Thea learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours to seek treatment. On April 29th, surgeons at CSC will perform a debridement, skin flap, and stabilization procedure to to remove dead tissue, cover the wound, and help him walk and feel comfortable again. Thea is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment and needs help raising $573 more to fund the procedure. Thea says: "I hope my leg can be fixed, so I can go back to work and support my family."

Kyaw is a three-year-old boy from Burma. He lives with his mother, grandmother, and uncle in a village in Karen State, Burma. Kyaw’s mother looks after him and his grandmother while his uncle is a cow farmer. The family also raises chickens and pigs and sells them when they need money. In September 2023, Kyaw accidentally fell on a tree stump while he was playing with his friends. Kyaw was in pain and was brought to a nearby hospital where they found that he sustained an injury to his right kidney. However, due to insufficient equipment at the hospital, Kyaw could not be treated there. Kyaw is not comfortable sitting, so mostly he lies down. He has difficulty passing urine, his stomach is painful, and he cries a lot. Doctors want Kyaw to undergo a CT scan, a procedure in which x-ray images taken from several angles are combined to produce cross-sectional images of the body. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose his condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $693 to cover the cost of Kyaw's CT scan and care, scheduled for April 4th. Kyaw’s mother said, “I felt hopeless when I learned that Kyaw needed further treatment in Chiang Mai because I have no money to afford his treatment. However, when I heard that there are donors and an organisation who will support my son’s treatment, I was very happy. Thank you so much for your support even though you have never seen us.”
