Pang is an 85-year-old man from Cambodia. His wife passed away, and he currently stays with his sixth child, who works in a garment factory. His other children are all married and live with their own families in nearby areas. He enjoys resting at home, growing vegetables, listening to Buddhist chanting, and chatting with friends in the village. Recently, Pang was struck by a motorbike while walking with his bicycle, leaving him with severe left hip pain. He has been diagnosed with a left femoral fracture — a break in the upper part of the thigh bone — which has made walking extremely difficult and greatly affected his mobility and independence. Fortunately, on April 21st, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, will help Pang undergo a hip hemiarthroplasty, a procedure to replace part of the hip joint and relieve pain. Pang's family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $662 more to fund his procedure and care. Pang said, "I just want to be free from this pain and walk on my own again. After the surgery, I hope I can move around independently and return to my normal daily life.”

Hamis is a cheerful, outgoing, and confident five-year-old from Uganda. He is the middle child in his family of three, with his older brother in Primary Four and his younger sister just starting nursery school. Hamis loves exploring new things. While he was at the hospital, his curiosity was evident. Upon noticing the computers in the office, he would quietly sneak over and start pressing every button he could find. When asked about school, Hamis responded confidently and enthusiastically, proudly sharing the name of his school, teachers, and best friend. Hamis and his best friend play football, have lunch, and walk to and from school together. Academically, he is doing well and recently ranked fifth in a class of sixteen pupils. At home, Hamis is equally active and helpful. He fetches water, collects firewood, and especially enjoys washing utensils. His parents are both small-scale farmers who work hard to provide for their family. Since Hamis was four years old, he has had a hydrocele, which is a swelling in a sensitive area. Initially, it did not seem to cause any concern, but over time, the swelling continued to increase, appearing intermittently and causing him significant discomfort. As the condition worsened, Hamis complained of pain. Seeking medical help, his mother took him to a nearby hospital, where he was examined and recommended for surgery. Unfortunately, his family could not afford the cost of the procedure and were given pain medication and advised to return home. As time passed, the pain became increasingly severe. During a subsequent visit to a nearby clinic, a nurse learned of our medical partner's surgical support services available at Nyakibale Hospital and referred the family there. At Nyakibale Hospital, the surgeon explained that if the condition is left untreated, the hydrocele could become infected, potentially leading to serious complications that may affect his reproductive health in the future. Hamis needs to undergo surgery to relieve his pain and prevent further complications. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On June 2nd, Hamis will undergo hydrocele repair surgery at AMH's care center. AMH is requesting $146 to fund Hamis's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Hamis's mother said, "It pains us so much seeing our son in pain. Being a determined child, sometimes when he says so, we think he is kidding, but it seems true that he is in pain. The only option we are given for a complete recovery is surgery, but we are unable to raise the money they need. We kindly appeal to you for support."

Hnin is a 65-year-old woman who lives with her two daughters and two granddaughters in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand. The family is originally from Bago Division in Burma. Hnin is retired, while one of her daughters works in a garment factory, and the other is a homemaker; her granddaughters are both students. The family income is not always enough to cover the cost of their daily expenses, so they sometimes need to borrow money from their neighbors, or the working daughter takes an advance on her paycheck from the factory where she works. The family lives with another couple that helps in paying rent, but they do not share any other resources. Due to Hnin’s health condition, they have had to borrow money for treatment and transportation costs. In 2010, Hnin was in a motorbike accident where she injured both knees. She went to a local clinic, but they did not perform an x-ray or examination, they only gave her medication for the pain. After the accident, Hnin’s knees would occasionally cause her pain, which she would treat with pain medication and traditional Burmese medicine. In January 2023, Hnin’s knee pain became worse, and her knees swelled, so she went to Mae Tao Clinic (MTC) in Mae Sot where she was given pain medication, and referred to physiotherapy. However, the physiotherapy and follow-up appointments at MTC did not help much. The pain in her knees was worsening, so she stopped going but continued treating the pain with medication and traditional medicine. In January 2026, Hnin began having shaky legs when standing, and her knees were increasingly stiff, so she went to Mae Sot Hospital (MSH) in Mae Sot on 2nd February 2026. There she underwent an x-ray and was told that she had osteoarthritis in her knees which has progressed to last stage, and only surgery would help. She was given medication, a cane, and a follow-up appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon. When she attended her appointment, she underwent another x-ray, and the doctor explained about her severe osteoarthritis and advised surgery. As she can only undergo surgery one knee at a time, the doctor advised her to have surgery on her right knee, since it was causing her the most pain. Presently, Hnin spends much of her time lying down or sitting and cannot help with most housework. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Hnin receive treatment. On March 12th, she will undergo surgery to relieve pain and improve her mobility. Now, Hnin's family needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure. She says, "After treatment and recovery, I look forward to going to the monastery to meditate again, as I used to do this before my knees caused me so much trouble.
