Eileen is a 54-year-old mother of four children from the Philippines. She used to work at a local eatery. However, due to her illness, she has been unable to work for the past two weeks. The family’s main source of income now is her husband’s pension, which is insufficient to cover their daily expenses and medical needs. At times, they rely on assistance from Eileen’s siblings.
Four months ago, Eileen began to experience troubling symptoms, including persistent neck pain, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. These symptoms lasted for two months, leading her to seek medical attention. She was diagnosed with a multinodular non-toxic goiter, and she will need surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Eileen receive treatment. On June 7th, she will undergo a thyroidectomy, where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is looking to raise the remaining $935 to cover the cost of Eileen’s procedure and care.
“The free operation will be a big help not just for me and my condition, but also for my family,” said Eileen.
