Savoeun is a 51-year-old widow from Kandal province, Cambodia. She has three sons, one daughter, and 11 grandchildren. She lives with her youngest son, who is a construction worker. She likes to watch the news on TV and listen to monks pray on the radio. About one year ago, Savoeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Savoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 2nd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Savoeun said, "I hope after surgery my eye can see better easily and take care of my grandchildren and I can go far places by myself."

Ei is a 13-year-old girl from Burma. She lives with her father, two older sisters, and one older brother in Phop Phra District, Tak Province, Thailand. Ei’s father and all her siblings work as day labourers in the corn fields near their village, while Ei helps with the family’s daily household chores. Her mother passed away in March 2026. In her free time, Ei enjoys playing with her friends and helping with the family’s daily responsibilities. On the 23rd of June, 2026, Ei had intense lower abdominal pain, vomiting, and a fever. She went to the local clinic near her village, where she underwent another physical examination and was diagnosed with appendicitis by the nurse. She was referred to our medical partner's care center, Mae Sot General Hospital, for surgery and further care. On June 25th, Ei will undergo an appendectomy. Our medical partner, Burma Medical Children Fund (BCMF), is asking for help in raising $1,500 for her procedure and care. After recovery, Ei should be able to return to her daily activities and support her family. Ei’s father expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much to this organisation [HFA-BCMF] and the donors for your kindness in supporting my youngest daughter’s treatment costs. We feel immense happiness because of your help. We could not afford her surgery, as our family can only meet daily needs if we work every day. Your support has brought great relief and blessings to our family.”

Khon is 73 years old and a retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married and has two daughters, one son, and five grandchildren. She lives with her husband, who still works as a farmer, and one of their grandsons, who is a student. The family's primary financial support comes from their youngest daughter, who works in a garment factory. In her free time, Khon enjoys listening to monks' prayers on the radio. About a year ago, Khon developed a cataract in her left eye. This condition gradually caused itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, making vision appear as if through a frosty or fogged-up window. As her eyesight worsened, Khon struggled to recognize faces, distinguish colors, and see clearly. She also became fearful of falling while walking, leaving her unable to travel independently or carry out many daily activities. When Khon learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 24th, she is scheduled to undergo a phacoemulsification cataract surgery with implantation of an intraocular lens in her left eye. This procedure is expected to restore her vision, allowing her to regain her independence and return to daily life with confidence. Khon now needs $263 to cover the cost of her surgery and care. Khon shared, "I hope after surgery, my eye can see clearly, I can recognize my relatives, and go out well. I don’t worry about my eye anymore."
