Daudi is a 15-year-old boy from Tanzania. He lives with his parents and five siblings in a pastoralist family that depends on livestock keeping for its livelihood. From a young age, Daudi has helped his family by taking care of the animals and grazing cattle across the plains. Despite his responsibilities at home, he remains committed to his education and is currently a primary school graduate with hopes of continuing his studies.
Daudi was diagnosed with bilateral genu valgus. This condition causes both of his knees to bend inward. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. The deformity has made walking long distances difficult, especially while herding livestock and performing daily tasks.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $777 to fund treatment for Daudi. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 10th at our medical partner’s care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Daudi’s mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications.
Daudi says, “I want to be able to walk and work without pain so I can help my family and continue my studies.”
