Rodgers is 43 years old and a father of one from Uganda. He works as a small vehicle driver. His wife engages in small-scale farming to support their immediate and extended family. In his free time, he enjoys jogging and participating in sports to maintain his health.
For the past five years, Rodgers has had an umbilical hernia. Rodgers has lived with a painful umbilical swelling that has progressively affected his quality of life. He repeatedly relied on painkillers obtained from different health facilities in an attempt to control the discomfort, but the relief was only temporary. The swelling causes significant pain, particularly when lifting objects, sitting, standing, and driving. Because his work requires him to remain seated for long periods, the condition has become especially disabling and has forced him to miss work on several occasions, reducing the income that supports his family and dependants.
Fortunately, on September 1st, Rodgers will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Rushoroza Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $170 to fund Rodgers’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Rodgers says, “I have spent years trying to live with this pain because I have many people who depend on me. I am a driver, but the swelling makes it difficult for me to sit and drive for long, and sometimes I miss work. I support my own family, three children who lost their fathers, and my elderly grandmother. I have borrowed money just to keep everyone going, and I cannot afford the surgery on my own. I humbly appeal to this program to help me receive this treatment. Your support will help me regain my health, return to work, and continue caring for the people who depend on me. May God bless you for standing with me during this difficult time.”
