Meet Musa, a 17-year-old from Tanzania. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) explains, “Musa is a previous Watsi patient** who underwent contracture release of his left axilla in 2015. The surgery was a success but Musa still needs his elbow and wrist to be released because all that could not be done in one surgery.”
“Musa is still unable to use his left arm properly due to the contracture of the elbow and wrist,” his doctor continues. Musa’s burns were due to a fire in his home when he was a child.
$550 will fund Musa’s single contracture release procedure. This procedure will release the tightened muscles and tissue of his wrist and palm, and amputate the fifth and second finger of his right hand. AMHF says, “His parents still need financial support for surgery to be done.”
“Musa longs to go back to school,” his doctor adds.

Musa received successful surgery to regain use of his arm.
As a young child, Musa sustained severe burns following an accident. Now, after his second burn contracture release operation, the 17-year-old is beginning to regain use of his left arm and hand.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), says, “Musa has had a second contracture release of his right elbow done successfully. He still has a small wound and dressing change is done every other day.”
“Musa is also wearing a night splint to maintain the correction and he does some simple exercises,” his doctor adds. “His arm is not completely straight, but the elbow is straighter than before and much more flexible.”
Musa shares, “I feel better, my arm is straighter and I hope I will continue to get better and eventually have the ability to fully use my arm. Thank you!”
