Chunheang is a 66-year-old grandmother from Cambodia. She is widowed and lives in Kampong Cham province with one of her daughters, her son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Chunheang's other three children live nearby with their families and help support each other through income from rice farming and clothing factories. At home, Chunheang enjoys cooking and listening to Buddhist Radio. In February 2024, she was in a motorbike accident and fractured her left shoulder. Following the accident, her daughter took her to Vietnam for surgery and treatment. The surgeons there fixed a metal plate in her shoulder to heal the fracture. Now the fracture has healed, but the hardware is uncomfortable and she is in chronic pain. The family spent all of their savings on the initial treatment and have been delaying visiting a health center for the pain caused by the metalwork. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On April 28th, Chunheang will undergo a hardware removal procedure that will help relieve her discomfort and improve mobility. Chunheang and her family are able to contribute $100 but need your help to raise $204 more to fund the procedure. Chunheang shared, "I hope I can use my arm again so I can easily cook and take care of my family."

Chhorn is a 68 year old resident of Phnom Penh City. He shares his home with his wife, three daughters, and two sons. His youngest daughter is currently pursuing her studies at a local university while residing with them. At home, Chhorn finds enjoyment in watching boxing on TV and engaging in regular exercise. However, Chhorn has been facing persistent challenges over the past few years due to chronic ear infections - called otitis media - in his right ear. This condition has led to right ear tinnitus, a feeling of fullness, and severe pain. Unfortunately, these issues have escalated in recent months, affecting his hearing and making communication, especially at his workplace, increasingly difficult. Despite seeking medical treatment, the problem persists. He feels that there is hope on the horizon, though, as skilled ENT experts from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, are able to help him get well again. Chhorn is scheduled for a myringotomy ear surgery on December 13th. Myringotomy involves making a small opening in the eardrum to drain the fluid and relieve the pressure from the middle ear. Sometimes a small tube is placed in the opening of the eardrum to ventilate the middle ear and to prevent fluid from accumulating. This procedure aims to address his ear issues and alleviate the associated symptoms, providing him with a renewed sense of well-being and improved communication abilities. Now, Chhorn needs your help with the cost of the $184 procedure. He shared: "I hope after surgery, I will have no more ear pain and can communicate better with my family and customers."

Biruk is a 13-year-old boy from Ethiopia. Biruk loves to write and enjoys physical activity. His favorite subjects are Amharic and Math. He also loves singing and enjoys playing volleyball with his friends. Biruk's father is a farmer. Biruk and his five siblings help their father by engaging in casual work and helping on the farm. Biruk was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. As the cost of the surgery and travel to the hospital was too much for their family, Biruk has not had surgery to correct his condition. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and may be at risk for other health complications. Biruk's father heard about Bethany Kids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre and its services from a relative whose son was also treated in the hospital. Fortunately, Biruk is scheduled for surgery on April 23rd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, requests $1,293 to cover his procedure and care costs. Biruk's father said, "If we did not get this chance, we would not have found a treatment. I hope he undergoes surgery successfully and returns home safely."
