Rahma is a child from Tanzania. She is the first born in her family. Rahma’s mother is a stay-at-home mother and her father is a public bus conductor. Rahma was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. Her legs are bowed outward. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, it is difficult for her to walk. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $940 to fund corrective surgery for Rahma. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 9. Treatment will hopefully restore Rahma's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Rahma’s mother says, “Thank you for treating my daughter. God bless you all.”

Meysom is a grandmother from Cambodia. She likes watching movies and going to the mosque. She has five children and twenty grandchildren. Three years ago, Meysom developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Meysom learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for ten hours seeking treatment. On January 8, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. Her daughter says, "I hope my mother can see clearly again."

Josephine and her twin brother are the third and fourth children to their parents. Josephine's mother says she is a happy child who enjoys playing with her siblings. Josephine's feet are turned inward. Because she can walk, her mother never sought treatment for the condition. Recently, our medical partner's community outreach officer traveled to Josephine's village, where he diagnosed her with clubfeet and spoke to her parents about treatment options. Now, she is scheduled to undergo repair surgery on January 24. Josephine's parents are small scale farmers who herd goats and cows. However, their income is limited, and they need help to provide treatment for their daughter. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,160. Josephine's mother says, "I hope that my daughter will be able to walk straight and attend school."

Meas is a 67-year-old housewife with three sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. She likes to go to church and to watch comedy programs and Khmer dramas on TV. Two years ago, Meas developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, tearing, irritation and extreme sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Meas learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On December 26, doctors performed a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, Meas will be able to see clearly again. Now, she needs help to fund this $292 procedure. "I hope I can see more clearly," says Meas, "so that I can easily do any work, go anywhere by myself, and recognize the faces of everyone."

Variya is five years old. She has two younger sisters. Variya likes to watch cartoons and songs on TV. Variya has a type of congenital strabismus in both eyes called esotropia. This condition causes her eyes to turn inward. When Variya's parents learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled for six hours seeking treatment. On November 1, doctors performed a corrective eye surgery. After recovery, Variya's vision will improve. Now, her family needs help to fund this $264 procedure.

“Carlos doesn’t talk like my other kids did. I think this is a sign that he is sick and needs help,” says Carlos' mother about her son's language delay. In addition to language delay, this toddler from Guatemala is experiencing general developmental delay due to malnourishment. His family works on a plantation to meet basic needs, but putting food on the table is difficult. "Recently Carlos has had several intestinal infections, and the family hasn't had the extra cash to get medical treatment," Wuqu' Kawoq' (WK) tells us. "They came to our clinic last week looking for help with his medical and nutritional needs." Carlos came to the right place -- because WK is equipped to help. "We are excited to be a part of the solution here, together with help from Watsi donors," the WK team writes."With intensive medical treatment, including food and vitamin supplementation, and treatment of his intestinal infections, we expect that Carlos will start growing again and that his language development will really take off." Say hello to Nasira, a ten-year-old girl from Ethiopia and the fourth of nine children. "About seven months ago, Nasira was hit by a motorcycle while she was walking along the side of the road. She was brought to the hospital for damage to her leg and treated with an external fixator for six weeks. Still, she has yet to fully recover," explains our medical partner, the African Mission Healthcare Foundation. Upon examination, medical professionals noted that Nasira has a draining cavity and two pieces of dead bone in her leg. She is unable to walk and had to quit school four mouths ago, due to the infection. For only $535, we can fund the removal of the infected portion of Nasira's leg bone. After the completion of her treatment, she will be able to walk again and lead a normal life. "I hope to return to school as soon as I am able," she tells us.
