Amar is a six-year-old sociable boy from Ethiopia. He enjoys exploring new interests and playing games on the phone. As the second child in his family, he has two brothers with whom he loves to spend time. His mother is a homemaker, while his father works as a daily laborer, working hard to support the family.
For the last three years, Amar’s family has faced significant challenges. They lost their home due to a new government policy that deemed their house illegal. As a result, they were forced to move into a rented property, which has been a difficult financial adjustment for the family. Additionally, Amar began experiencing pain in his lower pelvic area, which prompted his mother to seek help at a nearby health center. They were referred to several hospitals due to long patient waitlists, but the closest they got was a six-month wait for treatment. Amid the frustration, a partnership between one of the referral hospitals and our medical partner’s care center BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM) offered renewed hope.
Amar was diagnosed with bilateral cryptorchidism, a condition in which both of his testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Amar has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Amar receive treatment. On October 30th, he is scheduled to undergo surgery to treat his condition, preventing future medical complications. Now, Amar’s family needs help to fund this $1,073 procedure.
Amar’s mother says: “I wish for my child to grow up healthy. I hope he will grow up to support children in need, just like the donors do. Thank you so much for service, and a heartfelt thanks to the donors for all that you do.”
